Another thought: If people want to take the burden of responsibility off of the the troops' shoulders, then I urge those individuals to call for the reinstatement of the draft. I'm personally against this idea, but it would then give creedence to the "I'm just doing what I'm told because I have to" aliby. As long as it is VOLUNTARY, then the military is composed of VOLUNTEERS (paid or not), with FREE WILL, therefore RESPONSIBLE for their actions.

The rape is the act. The war is the act. The rapist is the PERSON PERFORMING the act. The Soldier is also the PERSON PERFORMING the act. Somebody may tell the the rapist to rape, somebody may tell the soldier to kill. Rape is still rape. Senseless killing is still senseless killing. If the [peewee] is compared to anything, it would be the GUN, the tool, the instrument, the object being used as the WEAPON. True, the weapon has no choice, but the PERSON does. Unless the troops are really a bunch of droids, then I'm pretty certain they have a choice. There is no draft. Even were there a draft (which there is NOT), I would rather sit in prison than senselessly take life. If, the soldiers are a bunch of droids and I didn't realize that we were in Star Wars...Well, then...I'm deffinately not about to support a bunch of mindless, murdering robots, either. Come on, man. Be honest with yourself. Think hard. If you hand me a gun and say "go kill and I'll pay for your schooling", that, my friend, would make me a mercenary. That, my friend, would be wrong. There is a major difference in defence and offence. I'm sorry, but your analogy does not add up.

"Supporting the troops but not the war is akin to supporting the rapist but not the rape."
(i dunno what the rules on here are for graphic terms, so i will use euphemisms)
actually, supporting the troops but not the war is more akin to supporting the [peewee] but not the rape. like the [peewee], the troops are just a part of a larger body that have no choice but to do what the brain tells it too. if we must be against any part of the body that performs the rape, be against the brain that makes the decision to perform the act.

I appreciate the response. And again i'm not going to say you are wrong and they are right or the other way around. I think activism is an wonderful thing for people to take part in. I just feel you could find a more constructive way of making points and trying to bring a change. I'm not saying stop writing, in fact I encourage it, but your edge is in wrong places and there is still a lack of tack. And that is really what is going to keep turning those people off to anything you have to say. If you want to fight for peace, you have to perpetuate peace. It is a fine line between discussion and argument, becarefull and good luck.

"Walter", Why would I start an argument with them, when all I want is for them to leave people alone? That's easily answered. I want as many people as posible to show their disgust for such people. More people should be writing to them. Maybe they will see that they are the true minority. Maybe they'll stop pushing for hate when they're out numbered, or at least give up on putting so much effort into it. Also, I wanted to see just what kind of answers they could come up with. I wanted to get their "facts" to use to continue arguing against this kind of thinking. They were just as I expected; basically to the tune of "but, but, but...it's different so..uhm...it's...it's bad". Fear. That's their response. That's their position. In my eyes, they actually started the argument by posting their bigoted remarks online. As to my interviewing skills not being journalistically perfected, I'm not claiming to be CNN or MSNBC here. I claim to be fighting for a revolution. ...I don't have time right now to allow you to take me up on the offer of pointing out everything that was factually wrong with what they said. I'll try to find time in the coming month or two, but I've a lot going on in my personal life right now that's very time consuming. If you're really interested, I urge you to take the CCICs advice to me and do some medical research. Homosexuality does not cause diseases. That's just plain ignorance. They claim that all religions agree with them. Then why was there a group of Christians marching against amending the constitution in my area recently? Why are most of my non-straight friends deeply religious? Why do so many Churches in this nation stand up against this form of bigotry? They claim that 99% of the world agrees with them. 99 percent?! Come on! You have to know that that's a load of bull. ...The reason I wrote to these people is similar to that of the kid in the schoolyard who stands up to the big, bad bully who's beating up the little guys. I write to people like this all the time. I'm not a journalist. I'm an activist. There's a very big difference. Why start an argument? Because if we just sit idly and go "Oh, well", it's never going to change. They are going out and actively trying to take our rights from us...they started it, my friend.

Actually, I wish you would point out all of the flaws and non-facts. And while you are at it explain what the point was in starting an argument with a group that you had no intention of actually listening to on a topic that you have absolutly no interest in hearing other views on.
As an outsider it is clear to me that neither you or the CCIC correspondent is going to change thier view and both parties can be accused of being closed minded to the other. They did however at least try to maintain a polite composure in answering your questions. A courtesy you ignored as you chose to make your attacks.
I am not saying they are right and you are wrong on the issues at hand, but you seem to lack a basic tact. It is further illustrated by your need to play the exchanges off as laughable. You want to be taken seriously, start by taking the exchanges seriously, especially since you initiated it all. That is what I took away from your experiance as truely being pathetic... and somehow hilarious even comes to mind.
And I would like to take you up on your offer to point out the REAL facts. I am truely interested to see what the facts are.
Rereading your entry to make sure I didn't misinterpret anything, or was out of line and unfair I had just one other thing. You mentioned no fewer than three times a desire to be left alone to a peaceful life. It seems like that is something you feel strongly about an believe in. I find that admirable. I'm just curious, why then you would go to such lengths to instigate and perpetuate such an argument?
